Today, as some of you may know, is my birthday! It started off in San Cristobel with a very cold shower for everyone as there was no hot water! We made our way for 5 hours to a small ancient town called Palenque. Unfortunatly on the way we were not able to stop off at the waterfalls due to a road block so the pool at our tropical hotel was much appreciated.
Our hotel at Palenque is set up with a very "island" feel to it. Our keys contain a plastic coconut, the roofs of our rooms are covered like a grass hut and at night the footpath has a "survivor" look to it. It is probably one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in so far, with a huge pool i might add. The pool is probably the best thing about the hotel seeing as this is the hottest place we have been in so far with the temperatures getting up to 35 degrees! Its very uncomfortable to say outside for long periods and everyone is either in the pool or air conditioned rooms.
Tonight we are having a birthday celebration with a huge chocolate cake and a piņata, followed by party games!
Its been a wonderful birthday and very different to one I would of had in New Zealand.
Tomorrow we are off on a walk through the Jungle and to the Ancient Mayan Pyrimads in the jungle!
