Winnebago Vistor Center
Upon leaving the the park about 8:30 am, we took a few back roads to the main highway 380 North. This is corn/farm country and you see field upon field with hugh farm equipment. Many have very nice homes and not the typical farm house you normally see.
A small town we passed was named Swisher. Ed & Martha can relate to that name. Once on 380 we passed thru Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and then Mason City en-route to Forest City, IA, home of Winnebago Industries
We were able to take a tour of the Winnebago Manufacturing facilities. It is huge and covers many acres. They are one of the largest manufacturers of motor homes in the world. They make all parts that go into their coaches. The tour included the fabric manufacturing with tons of sewing machines. They design and make all the fabric, cushions, and seem to have it all under control. They now employ 2,000 employees, down from 4,000 during the busy years. In one field we saw gas and diesel chassis of many sizes. Then around the corner comes a truck load of more Ford chassis's arrive.
After our tour we walked over to the rally grounds to see the 100 units ready and waiting for their drivers. Tried to find the Millross's coach but they won't be posting names till tomorrow afternoon.
