Beautiful Bordeaux... little Paris!
Today was a lovely day, alittle hot but that did not stop us. We had breakkie at the hotel and then decided to go exploring, walking around the town and getting lost. The architecture here is stunning! We are close to the main train station and decided to head towards the old town, close to the river. We walked past and peeked in many churches along the way. Admired the slate roof tiles and wraught iron balconies of the limestone buildings compleate with carvings. There are many archways and cobbled streets. Alistair was excited about the trams here that dont have overhead wires. The river has beautiful bridges over it. In the centre of town is a cathedral with a bell tower next to it. On top is a gold statue.

We went past the old palace and outside on the other side of the street is a reflective pool made from water that is squirted out in a fine mist.   The people here kind of use it as an unoffical swimming pool/sprinkler in the heat, and kids are slipping and sliding in it. It was refreshing on the hot day to stand on but there were too many people to really see the reflection - but it is a very cool interactive piece of art.

There is an old clock tower that is so impressive. It used to have 6 turrents and is on the Bordeaux crest. It was part of the old town hall before the town was expanded several hundreds of years ago. The bell still chimes. We went into a church just next to it also that had amazing modern stained glass windows of catholic art.

There is a huge statue/pole with a fountain underneath in this open plaza. We walked a shopping strip that runs the lenght of the old town. I got sunburnt on my shoulders by the end of the day but it was great. This town is so beautiful!
