I don't feel inclined to hike on and on into infinity as I did in Casablanca. After establishing Fes as an official 110+ kilometre "superhike", I continue on to explore the rest of Central Morocco the more conventional way: packed in with 7 other people in a Mercedes “taxi kbir”
I start with a trip out to Moulay Yacoub--a popular hot water springs not far from Fes. The taxi kbir weaves its way up the brown, lifeless hills to the west. These hills are clearly used for agriculture--but they look way too steep to avoid serious erosion problems... looks like on a couple of them people are trying to replant trees--but overall the region looks extremely barren...
Moulay Yacoub is a small village built on a very steep hillside--pretty quiet... partly because today's the end of Ramadan... but the folks that are there are a great audience. Get a mixed group--older men, younger men, young girls--get my first "play some Hannah Montana!" request, which I politely refuse...
Continue on with a bit of a sugar high--every kept buying me sodas in Moulay Yacoub...
