I start with a scrappy, plain little farm town: Bir Jdid. Here I arrive by collective taxi and sit down for a glass of tea and some msimmen at a dusty cafe by the side of the road. Great vibe... just chillin' there with regular, small town folk... It's a feeling I never seem to get tired of...
A couple of guys at the table next over ask me take out my guitar. I hand it to them.
"No--we want you to play something." they insist
Still they insist on sharing their breakfast with me...
... been a while since I've sung for my breakfast...
Of course, they think that it was pretty funny that I’m coming to "explore" Bir Jdid--"Oh, yeah--there's a lot to see here!" they chuckle. They underestimate my ability to find beauty and charm in the plainest of places...
And Bir Jdid is that--very plain... It does have a couple of streets with old school village feel--and then a couple of leftover French colonial buildings--even one that appears to have been a church. Not quite sure why the French wanted to set up shop here.
After doing a full circle around town, I stop in the "park" to play my set and take my clip...
...And that was Bir Jdid...
