Where I stayed
Running wild in the streets
It would be nice if we could do today over, but greater tragedies have occurred. We were hoping to get to Iruya today, a remote town literally at the end of the road, and an excellent base for hiking in the area. However, we´ve instead been stuck in Humahauca, one of those places where the residents must have gotten together and decided to market the life out of the place in order to pull in the tourists. And pull them in they do, in droves. It´s picturesque, the surrounding mountains are beautiful, but everywhere you go, you´re surrounded by teenagers (even more bored with it than you are) hawking the same ¨handmade¨ mass-produced trinkets you´ve been seeing for three countries, all while listening to muzak pan-flute arrangments of ¨The Sound of Silence¨, ¨Hey Jude¨, or that perennial favorite, ¨Dust in the Wind¨. Ugh.
My outdated guidebook says there´s no internet in Iruya, so we´ll get back to you in a couple of days.
Enjoy the presidential debates.
And here´s some pictures of Humahuaca. Like I said, they don´t come here for nothin.
