Update 2: Rocky Roads & Hash Brownies - A Trujillo Treat
Location: Huanchaco & Trujillo (north coast), Peru
Date: Wed 22nd Nov 06

WeŽve been having some good times in Huanchaco; a fantastic fishing village by the sea - around 500km north of lima. The food is cheap, locals are great and the surf is fantastic with long left handers on the southerly swell... Unfortunately it has dropped off a bit which is why i havent gone out. i can hire a near new board & wetsuit for AUD $10/day and the water is cold - about 15 degrees. weŽve been meeting heaps of Aussies from WA who are here just for the surf! about 100km north of here is a break that has the longest ride in the world!

Today, wednesday, we had one of the best days of our trip. so many interesting things. We wanted to go to the Huaca del sol y la luna (temples of the sun and the moon) which is on the other side of the main town. we caught the collectivos into trujillo and i am sure i have bruises on my head from the potholes in the road and speed humps which these drivers dont slow down for! the collectivoes are like minivans but with 4 rows of seats in the back!

Upon getting to Trujillo, the locals directed us to the right bus to get out to the temples and on the way we were surprised to see - a police station , next to a petrol station, next to what was probably over 2 hectares of marijuana right next to the main road. we couldnt stop laughing about it. we have been offered all sorts of drugs by the locals and we could have bought a half ounce of pot for less than AUD$20.

The archeological sites were fantastic - well worth the $4 we paid to get in. we had a guided tour in english and the temples were made between 50bc and 850ad... very interesting and intricate paintings that were preserved.

Well, i aim to keep these emails short, so the plan for the next few days is to hang round Huanchaco till saturday and then head back to lima on the overnight bus to my mate Lyle from uni who is going to be travelling with us. we will then head south by the sea and then inland to the gringo trail with the likes of cusco/machu pichu and lake titicaca!

Hey we have great internet over here, so feel free to email me and iŽll do my best to get back to you!

Peace Out!
Nath
