On our way from Konya to Kapadokya, we stopped at a restored and reconstructed Kervansaray, or camel caravan motel. This was one of the rest stops along the old Silk Road trade route. They were provided as free way stops (for up to two nights) to encourage trade, and they were spaced out in 30-40 mile intervals because that's about as far as camels can go in a day.
The place was quite cool and you could still smell camel in the back where they were kept. As you walked around, you could imagine travellers sitting around open fires, people playing music, cooking, laughter, and dancing. Amy would have loved to have been transported back in time for a few hours to see what it must have been like.
