Greetings from Guangzhou.

Well it's our first stop in mainland China and it's a fairly nice introduction we have to say. They say that Guangzhou at first glance is like an Asian L.A. There's kilometres and kilometres of freeways, flyovers, skyscrapers and one shopping mall leading into the next. Not quite what we were expecting of China but progress waits for no man (or woman).

We were in Guangzhou for a couple of days and simply walked the streets down to Shamian Island (old colonial and trading centre) and spent a day in the Yuexiu Park which at 92 acres is no slouch in the size department. It's a great park with tons of temples, monuments, a really horrible statue of five goats and a lake where you can paddle around in if you feel so inclined (we didn't).

We also had our first taste of Chinese counterfeit bank notes. We received a dodgy 50 Yuan note from a shit for brains shopkeeper. We managed to get a real one back from him but it still served as a good warning for us and I advise anyone going to China to change money only at banks and ask them to show you how to identify legitimate notes (we didn't).

And that's about it.

Next Pod - Yangshou, China.

Love,

Nath and Kat.
