Hello from Kollam.
Perched on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake and near the vast Arabian Sea, Kollam is a tiny yet bustling market town in Kerala, South India.
Also known as Quilon, Kollam is a favorite backwater haunt in Kerala and is known for its cashew, spice and coconut plantations.
We have come to Kollam to do a day trip on the backwaters in a canoe. We would have loved to have gone on a house boat but at this late stage of the trip our funds just would not stretch that far.
That being said the canoe trip was just as enchanting, the sparkling Kollam backwaters opens up a brilliant world of glittering green - sun washed and teeming with wildlife of all sorts.
We saw attractions such as the famous boat-building yard of Kollam and the not so famous rope making peasants. Funnily enough, they were making rope from coconut husks. Not something I'd usually get excited over but interesting nonetheless.
All in all a great little days diversion away from the hustle and bustle of everyday traveling life in India. This one comes highly recommended.
Next Pod - Alleppey, India.
Love,
Nath and Kat.
