Just a quick one from Kanyakumari for you all.

At the Southern most tip of India, where the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet, lies Kanyakumari, an important pilgrimage site for Indians.

Kanyakumari has been named after the Goddess Kanyakumari Amman who is the popular deity of the area.

Two rocks reach out of the ocean, southeast of the mainland. One of these is Sri Padaparai, where legend has it that the Goddess Parvati in one of her incarnations as Devi Kanniya did penance on one of the rocks obtain the hand of Lord Shiva.

The footprints of the virgin goddess are said to be imprinted on this rock. The other rock holds the famous and enormous Vivekananda Rock Memorial built in 1970. He was a poet or something like that which we didn't really care about, but we like everyone else love a big statue, sort of like the big banana at Coffs Harbour but for Indians.

Kanyakumari is famous for its spectacular sun rises and sunsets, which is why Kat and I made our way down there. God, we're so romantic.

The beach itself is pretty shit and jam packed with fully clothed Indians half drowning in the swell for most of the day. We were there three days and we went and watched the mass drownings everyday as our lunchtime entertainment.

Apart from that not much else to report. A great place to visit if you have the time on your Indian wanderings.

Next Pod - Varkala, India.

Nath and Kat.
