These things are truly majestic, they're old German sleepers that have been fastidiously maintained. There's just 7 to a carriage and the carriage has its own attendant. All this for the princely sum of about $100 for the two of us. Now that's value baby..
As I alluded to before, it was fortunate that Kat and I decided to skip Bulgaria as it put us on the same train as a chap from Berlin going by the moniker of Oliver. He was our neighbour for the train trip and also our neighbour at the pensione in Istanbul. Oliver's doing the same overland trip as us so no doubt he'll appear in future editions
So, if you ever need to get from Romania to Istanbul and don't want to stop in Bulgaria we can highly recommend the soft sleeper from Bucharest, truly a restful way of travelling. Perhaps we could one day afford the Orient Express?
We shall see..
Next pod, Istanbul - Turkey (at last).
