Where I stayed
Got an early start and left Morro Bay heading to San Francisco!
Took the coastal route, which was beautiful. The road goes up cliffs around sharp corners, and borders so close to the water. Scary, scary roads but lots of fun much like parts of the great ocean road.
Arrived in the afternoon for San Francisco, drove around on the crazy steep road with some streets having downwards grades of 30%! Drove the crookedest street in the world, literally a zig zag down a steep hill.
Took a walk across the golden gate bridge at sunset, then settled in to our hostel in downtown San Francisco.
The next day we took a walk to the top of telegraph hill and coit tower for awesome views of the San Francisco bay, Alcatraz and the golden gate bridge. Walked along the pier, visited, pier 39. Pier 39 or Fisherman's wharf is full of seafood restaurants, entertainers and shops and had views of Alcatraz and the bridge.
Later in the afternoon we took a ferry to Alcatraz to do a tour of the prison, it was wicked! Also visited China town for some dinner!
Next day we walked to Haigh street, heaps of shops, cafes etc. Also went to Castro street the gay area of San Francisco, lovers everywhere! very interesting experience!
The next day we rented bikes and drove them around the bay, over the bridge to a gorgeous bay side town called sausalito for lunch then back over the bridge and along the rugged Californian coastline towards the golden gate park, explored the park then headed home.
Spent for nights in San Francisco and left with the sorest legs ever, never want to see another hill again!!
Next spot is inland California and the Yosemite National Park!
Much love oxoxox
