Where I stayed
I found a tourist information office and booked the Perama bus. This company has a network of services on the island of Bali and fast boats to the Gilli islands and Lombok ( more later). With about 3 other passenges we set off the the 70 km journey. It was slow going as it always is in this part of the world. I had met an Australian in Sri Lanka and we kept bumping into each other in different places and he suggested that I stay at Wena, a family run place.
Ubud is full of artists and lots of little shops selling the usual touristy things. But it has a relaxed atmosphere and there are no noisy bars. Wena has a narrow archway entrance and behind it is a garden with a fountain and buildings round the sides were the family lives. They have 4 rooms which are let out. Most houses in Ubud have a small entrance and a big living area behind. Everywhere there are temples. The people leave little offferings on the path and in front of their houses and you have to be careful not to step on them.
Ubud is a stopover for the moment as I want to make my way to the other islands ia
