I booked the Air Asia flight back to KL. This time I did not make the mistake of going to Colombo and then making my way to the airport, which by public bus takes an awful long time. Instead I went to Negombo which is only 30 mins by tuk tuk from the airport. I spent the night at the Manchester a small hotel not far from the beach. It is so called because the wife of the owner is from there. They do excellent breakfast and for the first time in months I had the full an English with baked beans on toast.

The Presidential election is only days away and everyone hopes General Fonsekar is successful. The present President has used his post to promote his family members into positions of power and I think that over 300 of them are new on the gravy train towards enriching themselves. Anyhow that eveining there was a political rally near the hotel and my hosts were required to attend to show their support even though were not going to vote for this candidate. Failure to turn up would mean 'problems' for their business- well that's the way it was put to me.

I was picked at 5 am from the hotel and that was the end of my time in Sri Lanka. I found it a facinating counntry which seemed to have everything. The only things missing were deserts and icefields!!! I hope that its not too long before I am back.
