We arrived in Chivay in time for lucnh after a drive of about 3 hours, with stops on the way.
After lunch we went to a nearby village and hiked up a hill where we pássed Incan terraces where they cultivated their crops. In this Colca Canyon the deepest in the world ther were two different groups of Incas and east and west of the canyon. After quite a steep climb we came to some caves in which they buried their important dead. The rulers were buried elsewhere but here were the people of rank who would be buried with some of belongings. Like elsewhere the tomb robbers had done their worst and all that remained was the skulls and bones ot the dead.
The tombs had more than one person and the more important ones had had the openings bricked up.
Back in Chivay, by complete contrast we went to the hot minersl baths and spent a good hour just soaking and drinking cocktails under the bright moon. That evening after dinner we were entertained to local music and singing and some even joined in the salsa.
