Waimea Canyon--Koke'e State Park, approximately 70 miles from Princeville required an early start. We have a full day of driving, stopping at vista points for photo ops.  The colors of the canyon are impossible to photograph, which means if you haven't been there, it's time to make that special trip!  We made some humble attempts to capture the grandeur and scope of this magnificent canyon.

The weather couldn't have been better....cool breeze, warm sunshine, and enough clouds for interesting photos.  Had we planned Waimea for the weekend, we would have been disappointed.  A wildfire alert on Friday closed the road into Waimea; 3,000 acres burned over the following 3 days leaving the area without power.  (For more photos please click link):

Tunnels Beach is located almost at the end of the road on the north side of the island.  We arrived early to get a parking space (believe it or not) and watched waves crash onto the surf.  A lifeguard waved snorkelers out of the water and posted "no swimming" warnings along the beach.  Time to go.  "Plan B"...Limahuli Botanical Gardens--a fabulous find!  We spent at least two hours wandering through the beautifully appointed gardens.

We still have 3 full days to fill before Lindy returns to Oregon.  Hang on to your hats because that girl doesn't grow moss on vacation!  More when I can get caught up with the entries!

Aloha and Hasta Luego!
