Very near the park was small swimming beach and a a side street leading back out to the main road.
Back on the main road to our hotel we discovered that the beautiful building we had been passing each day was the opulent Cienfuegos Tennis Club and while the yachts moored along the ocean front were foreign owned it was evident that Cienfuegos had a degree of wealth we did not expect.
What was most interesting was just a few blocks away, on the opposite side of this peninsula we came across another area where boats were moored but it was a world away from the Tennis Club. Fishing boats sat at the end of rickety docks and shanties filled a vacant lot. We assumed these were storage sheds for the fishermen. It was quite a contrast.
Continuing around the peninsula we ran across a skate park right on the shore and colorfully clad skaters going through what looked like a training exercise. Perhaps Olympic hopefuls?
Back at the hotel, luggage out by 11 a.m. and then through the lobby to lunch set up outside for us, one last meal in the warm tropical breezes before we leave to meet our flight back to Miami.
Someone mentioned a small topiary garden that we had missed so we strolled through a sweet little garden on the hotel grounds for a parting shot.
Happy Valentines Day Everyone.
