We slept late, almost missing breakfast and then tumbled back out onto the street to find it once again crowded with people lining up for the noontime parade along the same route as last night. We found an opening in the crowd not far from the hotel and decided to make our stand. It was a little after 11 so we thought we could tough it out in the hot sun for an hour until the parade began. One hour stretched to two hours and we were both melting with the temperature in the high 80's or 90's and humidity off the charts. I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it downing liquids and fanning myself In an attempt to stay cool. Just as I thought I would expire a cool breeze would come up, just enough to bring my body temperature back down, a cloud would drift in front of the sun and I would revive. Finally the parade began and we were caught up in the excitement. The costumes were quite elaborate and we were totally impressed not just by the parade and dancers but the shear numbers of onlookers lining the streets for the entire route.

The parade lasted about 2 1/2 hours, I lasted about 2 hours. We left early and found a little outdoor eatery where we sat in the shade and ordered an orange juice, aaah! From where we sat we could still see some of the taller floats . . . they just kept coming. What a day!

Around 3 pm we headed back to the hotel for a little air conditioning and a rest before walking into the main plaza area for dinner at another favorite, Amaro.

Lovely dinner after a hot but delightful day in the beautiful city of Merida. Walking back after Dinner the streets were still filled with people and the music was still playing. These people know how to party.
