....and I was in hell.

Today we left Florence and started our journey towards tonight's destination of Nice, France.
We have to remember merci instead of grazie and bonjour instead of ciao.

First stop....Pisa. To see of course the Leaning Tower. We pulled up in the car park which is miles from the tower and it was full of coaches....arrgghhhhhh!!!

Joey had organised a little train to take us to the tower. Luckily the area is large enough to absorb most of the tourists. People everywhere with their arms stretched out doing the usual photos. Andrew went mad with the camera again and then went mad at me cos I couldn't get the right angle of him holding up the tower with his nose!!! I wonder if anyone notices the architecture and amazing ability of the tower to stay upright......well done engineers.

Back on the bus and next stop......arghhhhh ......Autogrill. This place is to be avoided at all costs. The Italians know nothing of customer service. Pick what you want from in front of the scrum at the display window, remember the name of it, pay at the cassa and wait to receive it. What a bun fight! The ladies toilets have a queue a mile long. Melinda and I used the men's toilets. There was no one in there and there was a lady cleaner....she nodded si, si, and in we went. Peter and Mark got a big fright when we emerged from the cubicles while they were having a wee.

Next stop Monaco. The scenery in this part of the coast was fantastic. The road is built up high and goes through over 100 tunnels. It has the effect of low flying and the views are wonderful.....blue, blue sea, snow on the mountains and small towns and villages dotted through the landscape.

Andrews trigger finger was going wild! And when we got to Monte Carlo is went off the scale. He was in heaven. We drove along the track and then walked along part of the track, up to the Grand Casino. We've got photos of it all........and the cars!!! Ferrari's, Maserati's, Bentleys, Mercedes......you name it, we saw it.....well Andrew did. I was too busy being disgusted at the obscene wealth. (I couldn't help but think of our little kids at NOCET and what one of those cars would buy for them.....a whole new home, school and education) ticked off the list, but I won't be back!

We called into a perfume factory on the way to Nice...interesting to hear about how perfume is made....didn't buy anything but my bag smells nice now!

Into Nice where our bus crawled along the Boulevard.....6 kilometres of people watching. Our hotel, the Radisson is at the other end of the beach from the old town. Modern hotel with the usual amenities right on the beach.

We had a free night tonight so we "partied" in Sandra and Peters room. We had bought salami, cheese, bread and wine........the only good thing to come out of the Autogrill. There was a corkscrew in our room so all we needed was a knife, otherwise we'd eat out tonight and have a picnic tomorrow when the shops open and we can buy a knife. Across the road from the hotel is a small grocery store. The guys got talking to the lady. "Parlez vous Anglais?" A little, she replied. Peter asked if she sold knives and told her why and she disappeared out the back and came back with a knife. Please bring back tomorrow!! Aren't people nice??

Well written Kerry. Perhaps change Andrews camera to a film one. That will slow him down . Crowds sound crazy. The sites look amazing.

So clearly too much opulence for you Kerry! Picnic in a hotel room with a borrowed knife is more like it.

Looks like it would have been one of the highlights of Andrews trip.
