Departure day minus 2: time to do some serious thinking about packing.

My well-travelled sister Shirley assures me there is no trip that can't be enjoyed without the heartache of waiting and searching for checked luggage.  I take this assertion as a challenge: I shall do three weeks in India with only a carry-on suitcase ... and a REALLY big purse!

Most important is my technology.  Nikon D60 digital SLR with 50-270 mm lens plus charger.  Nikon digital S9100 point-and-shoot plus charger.  iPad 2 plus charger plus attachments for transferring photos from cameras, plus fold-up Bluetooth keyboard to make blogging effortless.  iPhone to use as ipod and alarm clock, will piggyback on iPad charger.  Nokia cell phone plus charger, a loan from my friend Richard who bought it last year in India.  Cell phone calls are so cheap, Richard tells me, that I could just call you all with updates and save myself the bother of blogging.  But fear not, dear reader, I remain determined to ignore Richard's advice.  Oh, mustn't forget the plug adapter!

Second most important is my collection of accessories. Over the shoulder Tilley pickpocket-proof purse for water, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, etc.  (This is not the same as my REALLY big purse and must be packed.)  Money belt to fit between clothing and body.  Small first aid kit.  Small stick of Off! mosquito repellant.  Nifty little cord to anchor my point-and-shoot to my trouser belt loop in case I drop it or someone less fortunate than I wishes to relieve me of it.  Three weeks of vitamins.  Hand sanitizer, shampoo, sunscreen and other personal hygiene items.  And coolest of all, laundry and hand soap sheets in protective cases which I discovered on the internet.  [Carry-on bag = regular washing of clothes.] See the photo of the two little plastic containers with sample sheets, and my nifty camera anchor.  The ruler is not an endorsement of the Delta Police force, it's just the only 6" ruler I had that would show up in the photo and give an idea of scale.

Finally clothes.  Is there room left for clothes?  Sure hope so!

Great first post, Mom! It's making me want to travel already. Nothing like hand sanitizer to incite nostalgia of far flung travel! I look forward to reading more.

Okay, where are the clothes going exactly? I wish I was going with you? I will look forward to all of your posts so I can see India through your eyes.

2 cameras, iPad 2, Bluetooth, numerous chargers, pickpocket proof purse, camera anchors...gee Nancy, this gives a whole new meaning to the word “accessorize“. Enjoy your big adventure!!

You could always wear several layers onto the plane, then disrobe as needed! This might be awkward, though, when you have to peel off several layers of underwear. :-)
