This day got off to a slow start but was really wonderful.  We got up at 6, had breakfast at 7 and at 8 went snorkeling at the Devil's Crown off of the island Floreana.  The Devil's Crown is a small underwater caldera and the snorkeling was fantastic!  So many fish, rays, sea lions and birds.  We got to watch the diving birds from underwater - that was cool!

2 hours later we got back aboard the Tip Top IV and cleaned up, then back on the zodiacs and sailed around to the Barrel Post Office.  The post office is the historic barrel (occasionally replaced with a new barrel) used by sailors to send mail home.  If you find a postcard in the barrel that should go someplace you will be, you take it with you and hand deliver it.  We left 3 postcards - one for Tricia in Sioux Falls, Jennifer in Rapid City and Clark in Bellevue.  We also took three with us; Tacoma, Puyallup and northern Oregon.

There was a lava tube cave nearby that some of went to.  That was fun, I love caves.  We were a little stupefied that Tommy took us to something so uncommon and a bit dangerous but later it became clear - it was a payoff for a soccer game.  But more on that later.

Then it was back to the boat for a trip around the point to a very tiny town, Puerto Valesco Ibarra.  We visited a solar energy collection station, a local hotel with a gift shop and settled in for an hour or so at the local elementary school soccer field to watch our own crew play the locals.  It was fun; felt very real, not just touristy.  Clearly not on the original itinerary.  That trip was from 4 - 6 PM.  Dinner at 7, 7:45 lecture on seabirds and 9 PM bed.  Ben is an expert on seabirds and is writing a book on them.
