Phuket.
I have flown over Phuket a few times, and what I've always wondered was how to pronounce it.My impressiopns haven't really enticed more interest than that, even after having been there. Is that sad? Maybe if we'd explored the island more.. instead of sticking to/living in Patong Beach (eugh), I'd appreciate it.

In summary, it felt like I'd landed in a brothel.. older men and all these young Thai girls/ladyboys... pingpong show-showing bars on every corner, (which we did check out, on Nadia's request - on her birthday), and even more people trying to rip you off than in Koh Samui. Everything felt so cheap and so dirty..

I suppose the beaches were still good, but it's hard to relax with people interrupting your sleep even, to offer the nth sarong. I never did get to jetski here...

I suppose you're wondering about the ping pong show. It wasn't sexy. It wasn't funny. It was comical, if you're into disgusting things. Anyone up for watching razors, live fish and little birds being pulled out of where they never should have been? What about shooting a dart, girls?
If anything, I just felt sorry for the women (they weren't even young or trying to be sexy about it, I think it was saying more about the westerners that frequent those places than about the Thais that run them)

Speaking of tasty things, I was quickly missing tomatoes (I'm addicted), and was craving bruschetta (and COFFEE oh god there's no real coffee in Thailand)... so Juan and I dined at an awesome Italian place. Perfect (and he's know).

We stumbled upon a Russian restaurant, and naturally that lead to Juan's first russian cuisine experience. The vareniki weren't bad, and the pickles were great, washed down with... surprise surprise... Everything seemed to be going well, we were playing a lazy game of pool... when Sashka and I caught the eye of a wealthy Khazak. Please get Borat out of your head, and instead put in the man you see in the picture... needless to say, Sashka, Vit, Juan and I ended up feasting and downing a few too many. But you don't understand, drinking clean spirits is NOT like drinking too much wine or beer!... i wish i had that photo of Sashka sprawled out on the sand... ah well, needless to say the beach was more colorful after our visit. Russian salads are colorful too, you see.

As the boys filled in the blanks about the night before, we planned our one day trip to Phi Phi island. and Phi Phi was GORGEOUS. it's where "The Beach" was filmed, anyone seen that flick??
There's a good photo in this collection, have a look if you aren't (fool).

Sadly, Nadia and Juan flew home.. and my couple of days alone were about to begin. (my "me" time, happily coinciding with Sash and Vit's anniversary).
Our last night in Phuket was tres cool - we found a Jazz bar, and woah, could those girls sing. All my favourite upbeat Jazz classics, with a few soul/funk numbers thrown in for good measure. Top this with too many dvds and Phuket didn't turn out so bad :)

next, Phi Phi island!!
