Early start from Cusco but everybody is in good spirit, even our new volunteer Tom, who joined us in Lima.
After a two hours bus journey, we arrived at the commuunity.
7:30 the sun is rising and the group stops shivering. Blue sky, 3500 meter altitude. After the welcoming by the community with dances and peruvians costums, we get presented to our Papas and Mamas. Some students are luckier than others and certainly luckier than the group leaders, who are accommodated in the furthest house in the village.
The next four days, we get involved in the tasks of our families: collecting stacks of corns, beans, construction work, preparing the field for planting potatoes.
Everybody joins in, despite a small epidemic of diarrhea and vomiting.
Saturday: Later start at 8am collecting beans again. Lunch consisted of a sheep and potatoes cooked in an underground oven. Delicious.
After that we married two sheep and two lambs together that is! a traditional fertility customs, involving the sheep drinking a corn beer and being painted.
Everyone should be nicely bronzed after all their time in the sun and the filling meals provided by our chef. The children here have provided great entertainment for all and we have been warmly welcomed by the community and the three schools we have visited.
The football matches between students and locals became a daily entertainment too.
Sunday- The group went for a walk from the village centre and we reached 4100 m. and everybody coped well with altitude.
However the difference in the level of fitness amongst the group is showing and while some students venture around the lake, the rest start the descent.
Relaxing afternoon in the sun. Three of our students are invited to take part in the football competition. Unfortunately the final is taking place next sunday!

Who were the Bridesmaids?
Looking forward to the photos, we have had a lot of fun guessing who took which role in the sheeps wedding ceremony!!! Sounds like the footballers did the 'Toon' proud and didn't get trounced like we did with the BriBri! Hope that the tummy troubles settle down as the group get used to the climate/food/water/altitude etc. Is it as cold at night as you were expecting? Take care. xx
