I left the peace and quiet of Kanchanaburi thoroughly sunburnt and quite content. I got my first ride in a samlor to the bus station- it's basically someone pulling you around on a bicycle! I was quite impressed with the little old man's strength. lol On the bus I was greeted by Dave and Nicki, two Aussies who were heading for the same guesthouse as me, so we were Ayutthaya buddies. :)

I joined a tour from the guesthouse (for about $6 CND) to view some of the wats (temples) that are more far away, and also to see the central ones lit up in the evening. Sadly, my camera battery died in the middle of the tour. :( The tour ended at the night market, which is always my favorite part of the day! There is endless people-watching to be done in night markets.

Most people tour the wats by bicycle...but I am ashamed to say that I fell for the trap of a tuk tuk driver who convinced me to hire him for four hours to take me around to the wats and tell me about them. I bargained the price down quite a lot, it was actually quite reasonable.........it was just the lazy option! But then by noon I had seen all that Ayutthaya had to offer, so I decided to take a train to Lopburi for the afternoon to go look at the monkeys that are all over the town........except that I got lost and couldn't find the train station, so I gave up and ended up sitting in a hammock at the guesthouse until it was time to go to the night market again. :) I tried to order at a booth that didn't have an english menu...and I ended up with the same thing I had the night before: spicy seafood salad! So much for trying to be adventurous!

So after that I was ready for my next adventure: Kampaeng Phet!
