We arrived in Lisbon from the small fishing village, Cascais—just West of the city. It was late afternoon when I made it to Lisbon.
Lisbon was destroyed in 1755 by three calamities. First a large earthquake, followed by fires and ending with a large tidal wave. There are a few buildings remaining that survived, but almost all of Lisbon has been built after 1755.
The city is covered in trams that were built in the 1920s and are still in operation today. They add a charming touch to the city as they rattle along the winding city streets, narrowly missing pedestrians and parked cars. We rode a few of the trams and just spent the evening wandering around until returning to the yacht for the evening.
