The Ngorongoro Crater is located within the National Park and is 20km's wide, making it one of the worlds largest craters. The Crater provides a permanent water source and grass lands, hence the abundance of herds.

Ngorongoro is shared between the Local Massi and the herds. It is not uncommon to see local boys herding their cows through the grass lands, while a Zebra casually walks by. The backdrop is absolutely stunning and is hugged by steep walls. So steep in fact, it has you asking " how did the animals walk into this bowl"

While visiting the Crater, we watched a pride of Lions devour a water buffalo. It was INCREDIBLE!! As per the hierarchy, the males ate first and the women patiently waited. After the 2 ALPA males finished, number 3 started to eat breakfast. We patiently watched as he fell asleep on his food, growling at the ladies as they approached. In the end, he started several fights and finally decided to nap off of his plate. What a sight!
