Cano Negro is a 1025 sq.km wet land refuge that borders Nicaragua. The Rio Frio defines the landscape and is very similar to the Florida Everglades. The River is also considered the premier destination to bird watch.
We started our 8 hr adventure at 7am. It took us 2 hrs to reach the town of Los Chilies and a little longer to reach our boat. Id recommend Canoa Adventurea. Its the only tour company (at the moment) that takes you into the refuge. Other outfits, take you through the outer swamp, save on admission and pocket the change.
Once inside the refuge, we spotted an abundance of animals. Egrets, Ibis, Spoonbill, Caiman, Green Iguana's, Alligators (with babies), Howler Monkey's, White Faced Monkeys, 2 more monkey's that I forget and much more.
I would defiantly recommend Cano Negro and Canoa Adventure.
