We decided to do one more snorkel tour; in a desperate attempt to find live coral. The boats were no longer traveling to Ko Rok (because of the rough sea conditions) , therefore we hopped aboard a dive boat to Ko Haa.
Haa means 5 in Thai, therefore Ko Haa is the 5 islands. The 5 islands act as a shield, protecting the shallow lagoon from the rough sea. Also protecting its divers.
Ko Haa is one of the remaining "live reefs" in Thailand. Due to global warming and recent climate changes, many reefs in Thailand are dying. The water heats up and the coral can no longer survive. Many of the sites were alive just years ago. After seeing such a spectacular display of beauty, its hard to admit that I also play my roll in global warming.
I highly recommend LANTA DIVER , based in Saladan Town, Ko Lanta. The staff were knowledgeable and very professional.
