Where I stayed
Akah Hill House
What I did
We departed Chaing Rai in the afternoon and traveled North to the Akha Hill house ( 2nights). The ride was an adventure in itself. We were smashed in the back of a pickup truck with 8 other people and basically went off roading up the mountain. Technically there was a road :) In the end we arrived in one piece and made a few new friends :)
The accommodations were rustic, but its to be expected. Each bamboo house had a fan, running water and its own Gecko. Not to mention a BREATHTAKING view of the mountain. We spent our first evening with a collection of great travelers. All of which made our Jungle trip worth while.
Note: The wet season really is WET. If you are doing an overnight trek on the off season, its likely to pour cats and dogs all night
I started my day with some yoga and jungle tea. Its not every morning that you get opportunity to do your morning practice with such a view ;) I also need to wake up for our trek.
Our guide took us hiking (up hill of course) and into the jungle where he grew up. After a while of walking in the heat and humidity we stopped at a stream. Man, the cold water felt amazing!!! Our guide made us bamboo cups and chop sticks from scratch. We also had the opportunity to make our own sticks.
We then continued through Lecher fields, tea plantations and more jungle. Have I mentioned the heat and humidity yet lol??? Around 1 pm we stopped for lunch. MC and I manned the fire while out guide made lunch ( from scratch ). No really, from the bush!! It was pretty amazing to watch. He cut down bamboo to cook ( boil tea, omelet, rice, veggies).
After wards we walked off our lunch. We headed through a small village, tea plantation and finally a refreshing waterfall
After a good sleep we departed for Chaing Rai. Once again we were crammed into the pick up truck, but this time it was downhill and with considerably more speed lol. We were very fortunate and able to catch a ride with our new Friends to Chiang Mai. We learned to count to 10 in Italian and got badly beaten at the game of UNO!
