Achao is known for it's churches and is very influenced by it's Spanish history. Jesuit missionaries arrived on the island during the 16Th century and began constructing hundreds of small wooden churches. The result was a mixture of Pagan/Christian beliefs.

Chiloe is rich in folklore filed with mythological animals and spirits. Over the years Chilota mythology developed from indigenous religions and Spanish superstitions. Today the island surrounded by its ancient beliefs and empty churches.
