Flag of Chile  , Isla Chiloe,
Sunday, January 7, 2007

Castro is the Capital of the Chilean Island of Chiloe, and is also Chile's third oldest city. It's architecture is unique mainly due to its isolation from Chile and the Spanish/christian heritage. I was drawn to Chiloe because it's a remote fishing island full of culture and great food.

Our plan was to get money, eat and hopefully find a place to crash. Fortunately, Castro offered a different bank, larger hotels (that take visa) and restaurants/bars (that take visa). At the very least we can eat, sleep, drink beer and buy a bus ticked to the next town until we find a bank.

The first two banks failed to recognize our bank or visa cards. It looks like we are in the same boat, but this time its dark and cold lol. On our way down the main drag I noticed a sign for a bank machine inside a drug store.
"Its a long shot, but it can't hurt". The small convenience store bank machine took its time thinking, took some more time and finally asked me how much money I would like to take out. OMG, I'll take the full amount please. After another 40 sec of thinking the glorious machine spit 250,000 peso's into my hand. I was so happy I got down on my knees and kissed the machine. Causing an entire store of Chilean locals to stare.

It was nearly midnight, and it was time to eat. Tomorrow I'll worry about checking out the town.
