Aruli is a typical small town in Northern Morocco. If by some chance you happen to fly into Nador you will find yourself smack dab in the center of this little village. It situated 40 kms out side of town and due north. For anyone that is planning on backpacking Morocco I recommend you keep trekking because there is little to see.

Aruli was a pretty interesting experience for me because I happened to be there in the middle of Eid al-Adha (The feast of the Sacrifice). The ritual slaughter of the lamb is done in commemoration of Ibrahim's sacrifice and marks the beginning of the holiday. Through out the Muslim world the sacrifice is made by every family, causing the streets to run red with blood. Everyone packs there sheep in what ever works. People were transporting them in wheel barrels, cars, bikes, and of course dragging them. This sight is not for the faint of heart, but it's defiantly a sight to see.

Now, if you happen to be in the country during the Ed, I strongly recommend you have some supplies with you. The feast lasts for days and NOTHING is open. LOL, our crew somehow managed to survive off oranges and bread. I would recommend looking for any restaurant or store that is run by a bur bur (non Muslim).
