Saturday April 2, 2005 Paraty to Ilha Grande
It took nearly 3 hours for our bus to arrive at the ferry, especially because our bus stopped so frequently. There were many local families getting on and off the bus. I couldn't help but notice how diversely beautiful the Brasilians were. The children were especially adorable! Besides people watching, I worked diligently on reading 100 Years but I kept on referring to the family tree in the book because I was confusing the multiple characters named Aureliano and Arcadio.
Once we got off the bus, we were greeted with the most extreme heat of the trip thus far. Brenda and I purchased some ultra touristy Brasilian hats to protect ourselves from the heat. On the ferry, I fell asleep and a few hours later we arrived in Ilha Grande. I was dying for a shower and took one immediately upon our arrival. This evening, we ate at a local pizzeria. Afterwards, we walked around town and I enjoyed some dessert. Not too long thereafter, I fell asleep.
Sunday April 3, 2005
Ilha Grande, Brasil In the morning we went shopping for meat, veggies, and drinks at the local market. We hired a small boat to take us to several nearby islands. Island hopping was once again a delightful experience. The weather was very pleasant, the water delicious, and the food was reminiscent of my dad's famous carne asadas. What a beautiful day!
