Tuesday March 22, 2005
Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colonia, Uruguay
We boarded the ferry for Colonia Uruguay at 9a.m and arrived 3 hours later plus a one hour time difference. The Hotel Beltran was a few minutes from the port. It was quite a challenge to lug our things up a slight incline. Ok, I will be the first to admit how badly out of shape I am. It didn't help that my luggage was getting heavier. Using an expression coined by Mathias, Jan put it best that Brenda and I behaved like"shopping monsters".

Our lovely day in Colonia consisted of a walk through its beautiful streets. This would be an ideal place for a honeymoon. We also had lunch at the Lunch at the Drug Store (no...not where you buy medicine but a restaurant). The food was delicious despite the lengthy wait. In addition, a local band called was playing its entertaining Uruguayan tunes. At around 7p.m. Brenda and I were walking around when all of a sudden I got extremely tired, almost to the point were I wanted to stop, drop on the floor, and crashed. I managed to walk back to the hotel, fell face forward and knocked out (keeping in mind that I had only slept 1.5 hours!). My nap lasted a few hours at which time I went downstairs where the group had begun having dinner in the hotel. I opted for some delicious crepe-style pancakes with caramelized dulce de leche syrup which was magically delicious! This was the evening where Andres revealed his incredibly humorous personality as he tried to stuff himself with a wine glass! To wrap up our eventful day, went headed for a local bar and called it an "early" night at 1a.m.

Colonia, Uruguay to Montevideo, Uruguay
I tried to wake up extra early to take advantage of the beautiful streets of Colonia but was unsuccessful. My alarm kept on going off (this shouldn't surprise anyone that knows me) and then Brenda told me that I had forgotten to change the hour on the alarm so I was too late anyway! The group met downstairs at 10:30am. and went horseback riding. I decided to stayed back because I hadn't forgotten being sore for 3 days after my last horseback riding escapade. I spent most of the day walking around Colonia admiring its beauty and tranquility. I also stopped by a local market and made myself my own lunch; a fresh and tasty ham and cheese sandwich. The only bothersome aspect of the day took place while I checked my email. Apparently, a tourist tried to use the restroom at the internet café the previous night. She was now exchanging some very nasty words with the attendant even though they had a policy posted that restrooms were for customers only. I was so irritated. As I've mentioned numerous times, one of my greatest pet peeves is ugly tourists. You know, the ones who give Americans bad names: complainers who are incredibly intolerant of facilities/services that vary a bit from those found at home. Why do they even travel? Ugh!
