For the first time ever, I celebrated my birthday in Mexico! On this momentous occurrence, I spent part of the day teaching. My students brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a savory tres leches cake (my favorite). As the children sang las mañanitas to me, I was overpowered with emotions and began to cry! After class, my comadre and her sister invited me to dinner at a taco stand in Cocula (a neighboring pueblo). Later on, my cousins and I had drinks at Los Arcos where I requested las mañanitas by Alejandro Fernández. It was played six times! Imagine that! Everyone knew it was my birthday!
The following day, my birthday was celebrated at my comadre's house with pozole, cake, tequila and piñatas. Family and friends gathered to celebrate. My iPod boomed the entire time and there was quite A LOT of fun and laughter! The only thing missing: my immediate family and friends. I suppose another celebration is in order when I return!
