After arriving at Berlin's Tegel airport, I relied on Matt, a German student, to help me transfer from bus to metro to the hotel. I was very fortunate to have ran into Matt because there were "quirks" with the transport system that only a local would know about. So, for only 2 Euros, I was able to make it to the hotel. Alas at the hotel, I met Delaurie, my roomate for the next two weeks. After talking up a storm, I discovered she and I had a lot in common: Our age, we both spoke Spanish, we were both teachers, and of course, we both loved to travel.
Delaurie and I went to our group's meeting place at 7p.m. where we were introduced to Lou, our guide (from England), and everyone else who would be on the tour. We took care of some logistical matters and had dinner. Afterwards, a substantial amount of us went to a Bavarian-style beer hall where I enjoyed a raspberry beer followed by a green beer. Typically, I don't enjoy beer but this special breed of beer was particularly delightful. The company was great as we enjoyed getting to know each other. What an intense day!
