It has been awhile since I have had the ambition to sit down and write a story. This is not from lack of topics or things to say but just pure laziness. I knew that there would be something sooner or later to fire me up and get me going and it happened the other day.
Sitting in the kitchen very early in the morning as I always do with the computer on and the coffee brewing, I opened my news section on-line and there it was. Todays big news event.... We have a shortage of Velveeta cheese! It has to be a mistake I thought. This shortage of that wonderful creamy cheese like product is front page National news? I ventured further into the Internet and yes, this was a national headline!
Reading the articles made me both laugh and then border line mad. I realize that College Bowl games are on, the NFL playoffs and then the Super Bowl but really, a national issue over Velveeta? Can we as Americans not find better, more news worthy things to put on the news? How about finding an under funded, rural, low income school that because of great Teachers and great Students with a desire to learn have passed the top of the food chain schools test scores, old school way, paper, pencils and study. Are there not any deserving First Responders or Military folks, Doctors or Nurses that have saved a life or just plain made this world a little better, safer?
Now, please don't misunderstand me here. I LOVE Velveeta, always have always will. What could be better then a grilled cheese sandwich made from this fat filled cheese like product. Nothing on this Earth is better then melted Velveeta for dipping anything in the world in. In fact, put a hunk of Velveeta on top of a sizzling slab of SPAM and the world is good. See, I admit it, I love SPAM as much as Velveeta. Go on the Internet and you will find hundreds if not thousand of recipes for this wonderful mushy yellow goo. There are blogs, fan clubs and contests based around this wobbly yellow brick. As a matter of fact I am slurping down a thick slice as I write this, but National News?
As I feel my blood pressure rising it hit's me... National News, this means EVERYONE knows! Off like a flash to the store I go. I have a 2 brick pack from Sam's in stock but that is not enough, there is a shortage! Bolting through the store I see a Lady with what looks like the “Mother Load” in her cart, she must have 10 in there. Instantly I was afraid that I might have to do battle for one of those yellow bricks. As luck would have it, there in the back was one, yes one left. Off I go with a smile and the feeling of victory to the check-out.
I have lived through many shortages of one kind or another in my lifetime. After each one, I have always thought of the guy who acted quickly and had a surplus of product in stock during such shortages. There is money to be made, supply and demand. This time I am the guy.
Is Velveeta more important then those folks I talked about earlier, NO, is it worthy of National news, maybe, just not front page. Do I have a good stock of that heavenly, creamy, oh so tasty yellow brick of cheese like product, yes. I'm thinking “this is my time”, I am the “guy” and I have plenty of product. Anyone who did not or does not get a brick, call me, I'm loaded.
