I'm back. It seems like forever since I have sat down and shared our life adventures with everyone. I guess during the summer months up North I have plenty to keep me busy and really don’t have the time. Well, as stated earlier…"I’m back”.

This past summer flew by so very quickly. We headed back to Pennsylvania the last week of March, returning to South Carolina 2 times before Memorial Day so Gail could get her SC fix. Memorial Day starts the busy season for me at the café. I had it easy though as my time working was reduced to just 5 days a week instead of the 7 days of years past. I would start this season with some new challenges as I had to train a new cook and more importantly work with a new "counter girl”. Gail was going to run the front of house operations with me this year. Now I will admit I was a bit worried because I had always worked with absolutely the best counter girl, Vicky, for the last 3 years. She had always made my job easy because of her skills in the front of house. But, my Gailsy stepped up to the plate and did an absolutely great job.

Café season was a little different this year due to the horrible economy and a black cloud hanging over our little world on the mountain. We all felt it, something was just not right. We still laughed and made new friends as every new camping week started but there was still something missing.  By mid-June Gail was in her best form. She would have the steady customers food orders in before they even reached the counter and would spend way too much time talking with them rather than working. It was all good.

The end of July was not as good for Gail. Complaining of pain in her abdomen for 3 days she finally could not take the pain any longer and off to the Doctors we go. Well 3 hours later I am bringing her to Lancaster General Hospital and she will spend the next 5 days there with diverticulitis. Gail’s working days were limited after this. Another attack a few weeks later and a need to return home all but finished her café career. Thanks again to our friend and co-worker Vicky for bailing us out, the summer continued as usual.

We purchased a boat this summer from a good friend and tried our hand at water skiing and tubing. Kristin and Dan came out to take the plunge a few times and it was our little girl, Kristin, that ended up mastering the knee board. Now our boat, the “My Gailsy”, is down here with us and fishing and crabbing is the recreation of choice. We have motored up the Intercoastal Waterway up to Calabash North Carolina and south to Barefoot Landing. I’m still getting used to putting her in and taking her out of the water as the marks on the hull will indicate. Nothing a little rubbing compound and wax can’t fix. I feel great every time we take her out and love watching Gail, sitting up front in her bathing suit, big floppy hat and Maui Jim sunglasses waving at other boaters and pointing out all the beautiful homes along the waterway. Life is good.

My goal is to take the time to keep everyone updated on our adventures this winter. I have stories just waiting for me to post. As you might realize my days are quite busy, waking up – drinking my coffee –checking e-mail – maybe going fishing or just sitting on the beach. Some days I have so much to do I can’t decide where to start so I don’t. Then there are the visits from my good friend Wilson (more to follow) shooting the bull for an hour or more. So as you can see, I have to try and fit in the time to write to you all. I know, my life is so very hectic and busy, but as they say... “Someone has to do it”!

So the bottom line is this…. our adventures will once again be put out there for you to enjoy. Read them if you want or not, it’s up to you. I need to stop now as one of the most important parts of my day has arrived, it’s nap time. Gail and Baxter are napping on the couch, Harry is in the sun room and I am trying to decide where to go. See what I mean about my daily decisions? Be well and see you soon.
