Where I stayed
Oasis of the Seas
Also joining us was our very good friends, Ethel and Webster. I worked along side Webster for 24 years and they have become part of our family. This cruise became a special time for all of us as Webster had just started dialysis due to his Kidney's failing. He was able to do his treatments every night as he slept right on the ship. Thank God for new medical science. He had very few restrictions and now knows he can travel and still live a semi-normal life until he gets a new Kidney
The morning of the cruise started with the normal opening day jitters that comes with cruising. Do we have all our papers, tickets? What did we forget? However, once at the pier we were checked in and amazingly on the ship in less then 30 minutes! This was the easiest and fastest embarking we have ever had. This on a ship of over 5 thousand people.
Once on board we were amazed at the size and beauty of the ship. This ship truly is something to see. We enter right onto the Promenade deck which is the hub of all cruise ships. This one is amazing in every way. Shops, eating places, bars, a car, and much more and this is just the start. There is also a Central Park, themed after NY City Central Park and a Boardwalk, themed after the great ocean side boardwalks of days gone by.
First and Gail's favorite was Central Park. It was amazing to see live trees and greenery everywhere. This deck is where most of the specialty restaurants are located and Gail's favorite eating place the :Park Cafe". We spent most nights before dinner just sitting and talking in one of the many chairs located around the area. After the sun set this area was beautiful with lights and an open sky
Next was the Boardwalk. This is at the aft of the ship and also include a water amphitheater. There is a carousel and doughnut shop, Johnny Rockets and a seafood place. In the theater divers perform a show like no other at sea. These people dive from heights of 68 feet into a pool no bigger then 12 feet wide and 15 feet deep while at sea as the ship is moving and wind is blowing. This was really one of the best shows we have ever witnessed on our 32 plus cruises.
Our ports of call included Nassau, St.Thomas, and St. Martin. we have been to these ports many times before so not much was new for us. We both love St. Martin and go to the beaches and Gail does most of her shopping while there. This trip was Gail's turn to make the "big purchase". She has wanted a new IPOD and a Bose system so we purchased both. After a quick $500 and a massage on the beach Gail was a happy camper. I have come to realize after a lifetime together that if Gail is happy, I'm happy. Plus she fully deserves everything I have ever given her for the 31 plus years of taking care of me, and doing a fine job I might add.
Well with items purchased, bellies bigger, wallets smaller we headed for home after 7 days of bliss
While gone Gail really missed our mountain. She has now decided that we should stay longer on the mountain and not go south until after the holidays. She just has not yet decided which holiday. I could stay here all year and not go anywhere for the winter but once again...whatever makes her happy. We also discussed the possibility of getting a place in NY State or the Pocono area for the winter. I love the winter and Gail says she is OK with the north as long as I keep it warm and she has her Internet and Dish Network. Sounds like a great deal for me.
We will keep everyone updated as to our living status and in what part of the country we decide to Winter in. It most likely change by the week or even the day but as you all have come to realize that Gail and I are living our lives by the day. Each day brings different options and thoughts. We go to bed happy and wake up every day content. Does it get better then this? I don't know but I'm sure some day we will find out. Best wishes and health to all of our Family and Friends and we will keep you updated on our journey through retired life.
