Another absolutely beautiful drive today! It was a little bit overcast and the odd light shower along the way, but all in all a great drive. We arrived at the lovely Cape Conran Coastal Park to a warm welcome from Lou & Michael & met their friends Matt & Alby, Pam & John, Pete & Jenny, Jim & Karen and Kaye. What a beaut bunch!

Cape Conran is a quiet campground located about 420km east of Melbourne. The beach is spectacular although the water temperature was quite invigorating! I had my first Victorian ocean swim here! There are many interesting walking tracks to be traversed and an awesome pub at the close township of Marlo that we just HAD to visit one night for dinner. It really was a great night, we didn't stop laughing. These are a great bunch of people!

We spent four great days with some fantastic folk. We drank a lot of wine, talked a lot of dribble, compared gadgets, cooked up many a storm, solved many of the world problems, and Billy was king of the fire (as usual).

The wildlife was interesting… March flies galore! We had a daily visit from a large goanna that looked more like a crocodile! Quite the shock to have him walk through your annex… lovely kookaburras, much bird-life and these weird bug things on the beach that we had never seen before. They are minute things that come out of the sand when the waves retreat – hundreds of them, and they are beetle-like. There are also much bigger ones that kind of hop themselves up onto the dry sand. They are quite transparent and rather interesting to watch.(Asked a fellow camper about them and he said they are sea lice?).

We drove the few km’s to the mouth of the Yeerung River and had a 'Boat Off’ so to speak. Our fellow campers had brought along 3 different types of water vessels so we were able to see them all in action. John had a foot pedal kayak that was awesome. Both Billy and I had a go in it and loved it! Glides along with ease and is very quiet, Matt & Alby had a fold up boat which worked a treat and didn’t seem too hard to erect, Lou & Michael had a blow up Zodiac which was easy to erect and carry to the water as well!  All three vessels have their own incredible benefits – how do we choose what we would like now?

We all travelled into Marlo to board the Paddle Steamer SS Curlip II for a tour up the local waterways one morning. It was a bit disappointing – only because the weather let us down, it was freezing with a howling wind so we were happy to get off. The weather is so darned changeable here! Hot one minute, freezing or windy or drizzle the next!

All in all a great time with great people!
