Where I stayed
Woolshed Flat Campground Free Camp in National Park
Headed towards Cowra, through Young (the Cherry Capital) then headed out towards Temora, then west to Ariah Park planning to camp here for the night. As we were driving along this remote stretch of road, we passed a van that was pulled off on the side of the road. Bugger me dead! If that van didn't catch us up at Ariah Park and just happened to be friends of ours Michael & Louise from Melbourne travelling the same darned remote road! What are the chances? We would never have crossed paths if they hadn’t pulled over to eat their fruit before crossing the Fruit Fly Zone! Lucky Michael was too tight to throw the fruit away and decided to stop and eat it! Amazing! We stopped and had a coffee and a laugh together then we decided to hook up and camp with them for the night, at a national park just outside Griffith.
On our way, we passed through the township of Barellan which is the birthplace of Yvonne Goolagong sporting the hugest tennis racquet that I have ever seen!
Because we crossed the fruit fly zone, we also had to dispose of any fruit or veggies that we had so decided to follow Michael’s example and stop and eat what we could rather than throw it out!
Loaded with full bellies, we headed on to Woolshed Flat Campground. We had a great time catching up over a couple of drinks and dinner but unfortunately I had WAY TOO MUCH RUM our first evening, (I actually think I had a dud steak) and don’t even remember some of the conversations I (apparently) had! That rum sends you ta ta’s… no doubt about it! Apparently dud steak sends you ta ta’s too? Together, a nightmare! Don't do it! Let me share though, I have known other good folk brought to grief when spending time with Dicko, some even with injuries, so I am not completely to blame. It is definitely something in his makeup! :-)
Well guess who was crook the next day? Felt VERY ordinary till about 12pm when I was saved by a packet of Smith’s Chips! They fixed me a treat! NO MORE RUM 4 ME! It has been a LONG time since I have felt like that and HOPEFULLY I will NEVER be feeling like that again! I seemed to be the brunt of the jokes being thrown around camp for the day for some reason and we had many a good giggle.
The Patterson’s Curse is absolutely spectacular and is everywhere. It is such a vibrant gorgeous shade of purple it is hard to believe that it is actually a noxious weed. The paddocks just look lovely with the purple glow. There are some lovely flower specimens here too. We had a great fire tonight and that really worked a treat as it was floggin freezing once the sun went down. Twas a lovely couple of nights talking dribble around the fire with friends.(at least I hope they still are friends!)
