Today was a busy day. We slept in a little, had breakfast, and then met Maddie and Anika, one of our roomates at the hostel, at 11am to go out sightseeing. First we made a detour to Starbucks on Dawson Street! And then with the help of some locals made our way to Dublin Castle. It was really cool, some of it is still in use. One of the halls you get to see on the tour is used for state events including the swearing in of the President. They also shoot some of the TV show The Tudors there, apparently season 3 just finished shooting.
Then we got on a bus, after going the wrong way and asking some policemen for directions to the bus stop before finding the right one, we went to Kilmainham Gaol, a jail that was in use from around 1791 - 1924? Not sure of the exact dates. We took the tour, it was cool and very educational about Irish history and a little sad. I think they he said they shoot the Tudors there as well and a few movies have filmed parts there.
After the jail we tried to go to the Whiskey Distillery so Angela could take the tour. We tried to find a bus that would take us there and ended up lost in Suburbia. Eventually we just gave up and found out how to get back into the city center near our hostel.
We had a new roomate when we got back and she is from none other than San Diego! She's from Rancho Bernardo, it is a small world. We've definitely met more Americans in Ireland than anywhere else.
