After a long flight I arrived into Nairobi airport to be met by Smiley who was to take me to Karen Camp which would be my home for the next couple of nights.

After spending ages stuck in the car in the car park we finally got going and I arrived into camp about 4.30PM. On my way to my dorm I bumped into Alissa who had already been on the truck for the last few weeks on the gorilla trek. After a quick hello I dropped my bags in my dorm and went to meet the others.

It was great to finally put some faces to names as a few I had already been chatting with on Facebook. It was so nice to finally meet Helen as we had spoken the most, it felt like we'd been friends for years! As a couple of girls were leaving the truck the group went off to dinner while I introduced myself to Claire (Shorty) who had just arrived and was sharing the dorm.  We grabbed some dinner and got an early night.

The next day we were woken by the arrival of our new dorm/truck buddies Sarah and Maddy. After breakfast we all went off to visit the elephant orphanage and watched the baby elephants being fed and splashing around in their mud bath. In the afternoon we popped down the local supermarket to get some supplies and most important - a pillow for the truck!

The newbies were then invited to have dinner with the current truck team and rounded off the night by heading into Nairobi for a few drinks.

Auntie Jan on

Hi sarah

Dad has passed me your blog to read, glad you arrived safely and seem to have a good group of people with you. It sounds like a really wonderful experience and I shall enjoy reading about the rest of your trip - well the bits you can tell us. We are all fine here in Petersfield, Uncle Rog is doing well and his new room is nearly finished. Look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Take care, lots of love, Auntie Jan
