Lucerne Day 27-31
Well the trip is winding down. Lucerne is old, like everything else in Europe. The first night we got in we found a market in old town and did some shopping. Beautiful old covered Capitol bridge lovely. We ate at a great restaurant Rutli. I had the house special Farmer Spatzili. YUM another winner It was chicken and spatzel in a cream sauce with corn and bacon Dan had wurst with Rosti. Hah finally found out Swiss special Rosti is hash browns . The next day we toured old town walking zone but it is a holiday St. Leo day and everything is closed. We did a lot of window shopping (Dan likes that much better ) I did manage to find a few shops open . We then walked down to the boats and were going to take a ride but the weather blew in and we decided we didn't want to spend 85 Chieftains each to freeze .
The next day it POURED we took the car to the transportation museum and IMAX theater. It was pretty interesting view point. Did you know that the Swiss were the first to fly, the first to break the sound barrier, from 1947-1956 the only nation that had an ALL jet air force and that the US was not important until the Swiss decided they wanted to go overseas ? What a hoot. The info on trains and cog wheels was really interesting . I can't imagine traveling like that. The men on the trains were cradle to grave with jobs and if they made a mistake on the trains they could be jailed. Saw a great movie Des Alpes. Fascinating about a man whose father died trying to climb the Eiger and how he trained for years to accomplish what his Dad could not. The views were breathtaking I gasped and grabbed Dan's leg quite a few times. We did manage this time to find the ear sets with the English translation, it was much better. Trying to get to the car we got so drenched we headed back to change clothes.
I had spotted a vinegar place the night before but it was closed (because of St. Leo) so we headed over and YES got my Balsalmic vinegar. Great place different kinds of vinegar and oil . The vinegar was so smooth that you could drink it straight. I bought some that was 25 years old, can't wait to get home and use it..
We ate at the same restraunt 3x that is a first for us. The first night the hotel recommended it , the second night nothing was open and the third night it was pouring rain and it was close. The third night it was our 10th anniversary and we were going to eat at the hotel but it was all wild game UGH, we split the Farmer Spatzli added some vegies ( seriously short on Vegies in Europe) and then had dessert see pics. Did you ever think 20 years?
Dan tried to buy me a Swiss watch for our anniversary but I couldn't find any I liked. I will however continue to look.:)
The city was nice but onward to Stein am Rhein much prettier. I know I was going to put in more but can't think and running out of time. It is all pretty.
