Today was a moderate driving day. I stopped a number of times along the way out to the coast. Had a great haircut in Kamloops - all the regulars were quite taken with where I'd been and was heading. They also got a kick out of the fact my hair was driving me crazy when it got to about 1/4 inch long. Real regulars there, so was fun.
Instead of doing the quick drive down the Coquihalla, I opted for the backroads to the Whistler-Pemberton region. That would put me in easy driving distance for Vancouver Thursday morning and give me time to get to the Chinese consulate to apply for my visa before the office closed at 1 p.m.
I forgot what a spectacular drive the Duffy Lake road really is. Switchbacks, the Joffre Peaks, 15% grades, and all the nice stopping spots along Cayoosh Creek. It had probably been about 15 years since I'd been in Pemberton - unreal change from sleepy town to resort suburb with big condos, traffic, and outrageously priced real estate (well, not compared to Whistler just down the road I guess). I got a spot for the night at Nairn Falls, where Lyn and I used to go camping sometimes when she was young.
