Caught the bus up the coast to Noosa on Sunday.  The ride itself was pretty uninspiring.  It could have been anywhere near the coast in North Carolina or Florida.  I was finally able to catch sight of the ocean when we neared Noosa, and it was beautiful.  The bus dropped me across the road and at the bottom of a big hill from where I'm staying.  The hostel is an old colonial type house.  Which is pretty, but means you can hear people walking and doors closing without even trying.

After checking in I headed straight for the beach.  The water was an amazing blue color and a lot colder than I was expecting.  But it is still spring time here, so it hasnt reached its full temp.  After laying on the beach for a couple hours, I went back to the lodge.  They have a 'meet and greet' every night for new guests which included a free glass of wine.  Which I'm obviously not going to miss.  There werent many travellers that night, but I met a guy from Australia and girl from England, and we ended up going out and exploring the towns bars on Sunday.

The next day I walked about a mile out of town to the Noosa National Park.  They have several kms of trails.  I started off on a track through some rainforest.  It was really hilly, so when I got the chance to switch trails and head towards the coast I took it.  Eventually, I came to a beach on the other side of the park, on Alexandria Bay.  It was virtually empty, and it was a huge beach.  But it did take a bit of a hike to get there.  Spent some time on the beach, then took the Coastal Track back.  And that had some really cool views of the ocean crashing against rocky cliffs.  And the water along Alexandria Bay was just an incredible color of blue and green.  Overall, it was probably a 7 km hike.  I'm using km cause thats how everything is measured here, and Im too lazy to try and convert it in my head at the moment.  Anyway, after that long, I was pretty tired and just spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach, then had dinner at the hostel and was in bed pretty early.

Tuesday morning I booked a surf lesson for the afternoon.  Id been talking to one of the girls that works in the hostel who was looking for someone who had no experience surfing to go with her to a lesson, and since Im such a nice guy, and the lessons were pretty cheap, I decided to go.  Id actually been planning on it anyway, but it was nice to know someone else there.  The lesson itself went pretty well.  I was able to stand up!  Of course, the surf school here promises that everyone will stand or your money back, and its not like the water was ever over my head.  But everyone was able to do it, and we all had a great time.  Dont think Ill be a pro anytime soon, but at least I could do it again without feeling totally stupid.

Anyway, I had originally booked my stay here for 2 nights.  Then I extended it by 1, then 1 more, and who knows, I may go for one more before its all over.  But there are more beach towns up the coast, so I could move on and try them out.  Ive been debating booking more of my trip with a tour agency, but Id lose the flexibility to just stay in one place for a while.  And I dont really like that.  But we'll see, its supposed to save you money if you do that.
