We have had the last two weeks visiting relatives which has been great. Katrina had a week and then she returned to Turku and the south west until we met again in Tampere on Sunday where we stayed with Pekka and his family.

This morning we hired a car for 1 week from Tampere and arranged it so Rina can drive - keeping her happy as she thinks she's in control.

We are traveling east to the Russian border and then north slightly and possibly end up doing a big circle here in the south east of Finland. We took the motorway to Lapeenranta with a few detours and Katrina had a great time driving the really wide carriageways  which make one lane into two if you wish to overtake as you normally keep to the outside of the lane.  Interesting.

The day has been very  hazy being a combination of heat haze as well as smoke from the Moscow fires.  Stopped at a camping ground in Lappenranta at Huhtimäki Camping ground in our first very small log cabin and swam in a very cold Lake Saimaa and it was good to cool down as it was so warm all day. It has been so hot that we feel it is like an Australian summer without the humidity. I think I already said that the other day and so it's still really warm. Today the thermometer in the car read 34deg.   The cabin has very poor ventilation but  thankful for the window that opens and that we didn't have to suffer any mozzies.

Strawberries have been delicious and we're making sure we get our fill before the season finishes.

After a  short drive around Lapeenranta in the morning we traveled further east and then up to Punkaharju for the night enduring a really hot hazy day. Very thankful we have an air conditioned car as this is quite unbelievable for Finland.
