Every time we talked about Rauma people would jokingly talk about the way these folk speak .......they cut their words short so it makes for difficult understanding. However being slightly short ourselves we probably wouldn't have even noticed but the dialect is distinctly different from the everyday Finnish spoken elsewhere.

Since Rina had been to Old Rauma  before and like most young ones felt
it was just old buildings, she spent the day shopping and I roamed the
streets with a map and camera. No Rina and no mum in the pics just old
buildings from medieval times.

Rauma is a very old maritime city and is home to two World Heritage sites.

One is Vanha Rauma...... Old Rauma......has all the old wooden buildings dating back to 18th & 19th centuries and all those who live there have to maintain it in that period. The buildings  house boutiques, design shops as well as family homes. Cars, bicycles and pedestrians all share the narrow streets and I enjoyed the walk through Old Rauma just taking in the very sleepy old part of  this town on a warm sunny afternoon.

Had a panic moment though when we didn't meet at the agreed time in the old market place waiting  for over an hour as we had only one mobile between us at this stage.  Rina had a seniors moment and forgot that we had agreed to meet at the market and I also had no idea where the car was parked but all's well that ends well.
