Weather: High sky with traces of clouds  Start 18.5C High 25.5C Perfect riding weather!
Today I had a few stops planned which I did plus a surprise stop.
I first visited Ste Genevieve which is the oldest town in Missouri. There were only two restored building while the rest were newer brick houses. I only get a shot of one of the houses. At Perryville MO I crossed back into Illinois at Chester. Chester is the home town of the man who created Popeye: E.C Segar. The town has statues of several of the characters from the Popeye series but I was only interested in getting Popeye's picture which I did.
I continued down The Illinois side of the Mississippi as I wanted to visit two town that are mentioned in one of my favourite books by Neil Gaiman 'American Gods'. The two towns were Thebes and Cairo. I was disappointed as both places had seen better days long ago. I counted on getting gas in Cairo which had three gas stations listed but were all closed. I was lucky to get gas the next town over which had Regular or Diesel. My bike takes mid grade or premium so I put $5 worth in my tank.
Just outside of Cairo the Ohio River and the Mississippi River converge which could be seen at the Fort Defiance State Park back on the Illinois side of the river. I spent time there shooting the convergence, a river boat and coal barges. I saw a sign that said Coal Keeps Kentucky Running!. Makes our shutting down of the Coal Generating Plants seem a little less important in the scheme of things.
Lots of little adventures today most I will not share but the last section of the River Road I did today took me right out into the country. The road was full of curves and hills and the first real curve I took was completely unexpected so emergency brakes while leaning far over into the curve got me safely around. I slowed down a little after that.
